damnfandomproblems

censorship is a plague. the rest of the internet is not tiktok, stop censoring triggers and tags. i cannot blacklist suicide if you tag it on ao3 as “su!c!de”, i cannot avoid a show with bestiality if you mark it on a site where the entire point is to list potential triggers of a show, specifically doesthedogdie, as “b********y”. if i didn’t see additional comments, i would’ve never known they had an episode about bestiality unless i went in and watched the show and figured it out myself, which destroys the entire purpose of doesthedogdie.

you are not protecting people with triggers, you’re actively harming them by shoving a potential trigger in their face that they can’t avoid. you’re harming people with screenreaders, disabled people, and nonenglish speakers because you are uncomfortable typing out a word. pro tip: just don’t talk about it then. go away. we don’t need our hands held by someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing OR doesn’t respect us enough to do it properly. have you people learned nothing from the tumblr porn ban.

#also the obnoxious censorhsip makes it harder to read and figure out what it is sometimes like if you just do **** mention#or r////a***e m////e**ti0n or some shit like that#like bruh im not blacklisting that shit because if it is missing a little / or * got moved to a diff letter it’s immediately off of the bla#you are helping no one by censoring content warnings and tags#like okay on tiktok or tumblr i get it i suppose#cause for whatever reason the ass backwards devs decided people can’t#fucking tag shit properly without getting their accounts yeeted#but on ao3 please stop doing that#ao3 is a friend it will not yeet your account for proper tagging

When “Me Too” was banned in China, Chinese netizens got around the ban by typing the “rabbit” and “rice” emoji, because “rice rabbit” was a homophone for “Me Too” in Chinese. What was the government supposed to do then? Ban all emojis?

Even if you try to censor something, it doesn’t even work because people will always try to circumvent it.

People on this site really latch on to the idea that only good people are capable of producing good art. It’ll turn out that somebody is a scum bag and so many bloggers on here will come out of the woodwork going “Well actually I thought their art sucked the whole time” Sit back down. No you didn’t.

lostsometime

and, conversely, people who don’t like someone’s art searching desperately for the “proof” that the artist is secretly a scumbag

God I HATE this shit. A really good example of this that hits close to home for me is the recent drama/exposure of CreepShowArt aka Shannon, a Youtuber. For those unaware, CreepShowArt was a popular and rising Youtuber who posted videos where she discussed a variety of topics (often but not always these videos were rants) while a video of her drawing art played in the background.

Anyway, a few months ago it was revealed that Shannon was talking shit about her friends and fellow internet creators on an image board dedicated to drama under an anonymous profile (which was later revealed to be her after the admins of said image board got tired of her promoting herself and exposed her). But what was really the nail in the coffin was when another art commentary creator, Emily Artful, revealed in a video that Shannon and her husband were engaged in a years-long campaign of harassment and abuse against her. She had plenty of receipts and everything. Needless to say Shannon lost a huge chunk of her subscribers, hasn’t shown her face in months, and her career is basically over.

To tie it back into the OP, from what you hear from people talk about Shannon, you’d think she never had any fans. This is a person who had hundreds of thousands of subscribers and a lot of influence and and yet all I ever hear is “I never liked her” and “I was always suspicious of her tbh” and “I can’t believe anyone ever liked her.” I was a fan of Shannon’s, I’m not afraid to admit it. Looking back on it there were red flags but I along with a lot of other people were bamboozled.

People need to get better at fessing up to admitting they liked a creator who turns out to be problematic. Or liking problematic art. It’s all a part of this purity culture bullshit where we all have to pretend that we’re perfect and have never made any mistakes.

I’ve heard terrible things about Steven Spielberg, and when those come to light, we’ll have to go through this all over again.

rainbowloliofjustice

As someone who was around during the Creepshow Art drama as it unfolded, yeah you would think that Shannon just never had fans given people were coming out to say “yeah I never liked her”

Of course, when I watched Shannon’s content (usually just to have something to listen to) she generally struck me as the Fanpol, overly woke kind of individual. That said, I only really listen to her stuff while I worked on art so I never formed any deep connection where I was looking forward to seeing new videos from her. Myself, I’ve never particularly was trusting of Shannon since she did a video over an artist that she called a map/pedophile and said created pedophilic art… and then proceeded to link the twitter of the artist in her description and show the artwork on screen but just censored.

So, general fanpol kind of behavior and there was that and the Hopeless Peaches drama. So in short, I never particularly trusted Shannon and saw some of the red flags.

That said, I can admit that I didn’t expect the rabbit hole of “don’t trust Shannon” to end at “She and her husband (allegedly) stalked Emily Artful”. I was expecting it to end at “Shannon is a bitch behind the scenes.”

So even though this seems contradictory to the point, I bring this up because Shannon went from being relatively beloved to everyone turning on her in an instant, saying her art was never good, her voice was always annoying, etc. and simply put, even though I never particularly liked Shannon, I can at least articulate that it was for reasons (somewhat) unrelated to a lot of the drama that ended her career so to say.

Prior to this whole event, you couldn’t really say “I don’t like Shannon” in the general YT Art Commentary community because everyone loved Shannon. Now, you can freely talk about how much of a bitch she was because no one wants to be associated with her anymore.

And in the cases where some people don’t show any signs of being awful people behind the scenes (like say Kawanocy, Sakimichan, Ilya Kushnov, etc.) people go through their art to find reasons why it is bad, gross, disturbing, sexualized, etc. In other words, they’re trying to dig to find reasons why people who don’t show any red flags should be canceled just because they dislike their art and will make up completely off the wall takes on why their artwork is bad and how “someone else is more deserving” and will just outright make up reasons as to why they must be bad people and therefor make terrible art and therefor, they shouldn’t have any fans.

someoneintheshadow456

This already happened with Harry Potter. Now people are saying so much as acknowledging you liked the series at one point is akin to putting trans women in a woodchipper.

Saying this… without actually making an effort to understand or combat transphobia, or worse being transphobic themselves and thinking they can’t be because they hate HP.

not to be rude but some of y'all need to look on the bright side sometimes. like, yeah sure the world is fucked and people suck and we all die whatever, sure, but like. go outside.

spidermass

ok i phrased this poorly, hang on.

i'm not saying the cure for depression is touching grass. however, if you surround yourself with sad things and talk about how terrible life is and how much you're suffering and never take a breath and remember it's not all bad, you'll end up making yourself worse.

spidermass

like, i've been diagnosed with clinical depression, and anxiety, and insomnia, and chronic pain, and a million other things that get in the way of me having a simple fucking good day, but you know what?

i watch videos that make me happy and wear pretty clothes and cut my hair in fun styles and do my makeup and drink strawberry tea and take two showers a day and i look on the bright side because goddamnit if god is trying to break me down, he'll have to try harder.

i see so many people talk about how sad they are, who make their depression their first priority, and i get it, i really do, but you know that is actively harming your mental state, right? please, just do something nice for yourself, think positively for one day. i promise things get better when you step back and breathe.

Goddammit if god is trying to break me down, he'll have to try harder

Every bit as atrocious as the man-hating radfems lmao

I can’t wait till both groups figure out that women are just human beings

Also, NOBODY can afford to be this prissy and put together, AND have their husband keep them like a pet, AND be a baby factory for a straight decade, if they aren’t super rich. This is straight up irrelevant to most everyone lmao

perkachow

Looking at their blog I think they’re a roleplayer and probably also a fetishist

someoneintheshadow456

The weirdest part is I can’t tell if this was written by a radfem or a trad.

Also it’s fitting because most radfems are former trads, and thus have the most fucked up ideas of men and heterosexual relationships in existence. And they KNOW it’s fucked up, but still are attracted to that.
